MEDIA RELEASE - BIG MONEY LURES DRAG STARS TO PRO STREET SHOOTOUT

17 September 2010

This weekend will see the biggest ever cash prize on offer for Pro Street drag racing at Willowbank Raceway, and the big money has attracted not only the stars of Pro Street racing but also some well-known Pro Series racers.

To be eligible for the bracket the race car must have swinging doors and be running 10.5 wide tyres, opening the way for Pro Series names like Shane Tucker (Pro Stock), Matt Abel and Deno Brijeski (Top Doorslammer) and Ben Bray (drag racing stalwart in Top Doorslammer and also Pro FX competitor) to enter their high octane machines on the revised tyre in the dash for cash.

Bray was on-track at Willowbank Raceway today with Australian Pro Street Association co-owner and drag racer Johnny Wilson and fellow Pro Street racer Frank Mamone to talk about the new concept, as Queensland’s premier drag racing facility prepares for a big weekend which also includes its 25th birthday celebrations this Sunday.

“It is going to be pretty exciting to see so many different and high powered cars all competing in the one bracket,” said Bray, who will enter his ProFX Scion in the dash for cash.

“It is going to come down to who can fine tune their chassis and convert that power to the track through the 10.5 tyre – the fans are in for a real treat!”

“Add in the big cash prize and the fact there will be no shortage of top notch drivers all shooting for the win, and its going to be well and truly on for young and old!”

Wilson, co-owner of the Australian Pro Street Association – organisers of the Outlaw 10.5 Pro Street Shootout – said that thanks was owed to Procomp Motorsport for their support of the category and supply of the cash prize.

“The support of Australian Pro Street racing and 10.5 Outlaw racing by Procomp Motorposrt is just phenomenal and we all have to take our hats off to them for making this weekend possible,” said Wilson.

“What we have on offer this Saturday is end to end thrilling drag racing, not just from the Outlaw 10.5 category which will see all sorts of cars including Blown Injected, Turbo Charged and Nitrous injected V8’s right through to Tube chassis Toyota Powered exotics, running anything from 1800 to 3000 horsepower, but from all of our Pro Street categories – there will be plenty to see this weekend for the fans so I can’t encourage them more to come on out and see what goes down!”

Entry is $25 for adults or $20 for students with ID, and children aged 13 and under enjoy free admission. Gates open at 8am with racing from midday to approximately 8.30pm.

The 10.5 Outlaw Pro Street Shootout isn’t the only event set to light up Willowbank Raceway next weekend, with the Saturday event quickly followed up on Sunday with Willowbank Raceway’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Willowbank Raceway will open the gates for a relaxed, informal celebration of its beginnings and history on September 19, with static display vehicles, memorabilia and official presentations all set to be a part of the schedule. The day will run from 9.00am to 4.00pm on September 19 and there will be two ticketing options available for those wishing to come along to the event.

The first sees you pre-purchase your ticket for $30 for adults and students and $20 for children under the age of 13, with your ticket including a BBQ lunch (from 11.30am) and official Willowbank Raceway goodie bag including 25th anniversary merchandise.
