Australia Post never slow with this postie

When Tammy Goldthorpe is on her delivery run for Australia Post, you can rest assured that she will never be late.

Goldthorpe is a past track champion in the Modified Bike division at Willowbank Raceway and is also the current points leader.

She will be competing on Saturday, January 21 at the Rocket Allstars Racing Series event where teams from across Australia are coming to compete for national points.

Goldthorpe said there must be something about delivering the post that breeds good drag racers. “There was four posties in the top eight of the street series recently,” she said. “So maybe the skills do cross over!”

From the appropriately named suburb of Raceview, Goldthorpe said she got started racing in 2001 at the urging of her partner Denis Ryan, who is also a drag racer and will be competing alongside her at the event.

“I was very nervous the first time I went down the track but then after that I was addicted,” she said. “After about a year I shifted from the street bike events to Modified Bike and I won the track championship in my second season.”

After a break of five years when her son was born, Goldthorpe resumed racing in 2011 and has shown she has lost none of her touch, leading the current season's championship by five points over Mitchelton's Karl Pacey.

Her current Suzuki GSXR has run as quick as 9.65sec for the quarter mile (402m) race track. “Every time you get faster it is buzz. I'm probably too competitive for my own good,” Goldthorpe said. “I'm leading the track championship so I'd like to stay there, I just need consistency.”

When it comes to racing her partner, Goldthorpe said they don't hold back but he has the upper hand currently. “I've never beaten him; I try my hardest every time we race. He's a quiet achiever,” she said.

The Rocket Allstars Racing Series at Willowbank Raceway is on Saturday, January 21. It will feature supercharged dragsters and funny cars, quick motorcycles and wild sedans.

Qualifying begins from 9am with racing from 3pm. Entry costs just $20 for adults, $18 for students and kids 13 and under are free.
