Willowbank Raceway - General News: A new rocket for Davison

A new rocket for Davison

17 January 2012

Park Ridge drag racer Mark Davison is entering the Rocket Allstars Racing Series this weekend at Willowbank Raceway with a new weapon.

Davison will be debuting a supercharged ride in the Competition category and is hoping that chasing a new national record will help the team get over a series of mechanical dramas.

“2009 and 2010 were trying years for the Davison family with two engine blocks being destroyed,” he said. “We have since decided to take on the AA/Altered class with the new car and crew.”

Davison will have the assistance of Western Australian racer Aaron Deery with the team, who is travelling over to provide help as he comes to grips with the 3000 horsepower race car.

The family aspect of drag racing is important for Davison and his son Shane is eventually planned to take over some of the driving, sharing the same passion for the sport.

“Shane will be in the driver’s seat once the car is sorted we will run it the Competition category before stepping it up with some new parts for the ANDRA Pro Series Top Alcohol division as that’s where we want to head in the future ,” Mark said.

“Shane has been at the track from the age of six weeks old and he has done his tour of duty in Junior Dragsters since he was eight years old.

“He’s going to spend a season on the car tuning under the watchful eye of Aaron Deery first.”

The Rocket Allstars Racing Series at Willowbank Raceway is on Saturday, January 21. It will feature supercharged dragsters and funny cars, quick motorcycles and wild sedans.

Qualifying begins from 9am with racing from 3pm. Entry costs just $20 for adults, $18 for students and kids 13 and under are free.
