NITRO FUNNY CAR, TOP FUEL STAR DAMIEN HARRIS JOINS NOSTALGIA RANKS

19 July 2012

Nitro Funny Car and Top Fuel driver Damien Harris has been confirmed as the pilot of Paul Shackleton’s Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car at next month’s Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals at Willowbank Raceway.

The West Australian will steer one of three nostalgia nitro funny cars at the 11-12 August 2012 event at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility, alongside fellow Top Fuel racer Andrew Cowin and Cowin’s Rocket Industries team-mate Shane Olive.

“Nostalgia events are something I really enjoy, the array of cars heating up the race track as well as the off-track events make for a really entertaining and fun event,” said Harris.

“The Shack Attack Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car always gets some great reactions from the crowd and hopefully we can run some impressive flame-throwing 6.0 or even 5.9 second passes for them before the event is out!”

Two hundred racers are expected to take part in the highly anticipated event which also includes the annual Willowbank Raceway super swap meet.

“With more than 200 nostalgia enthusiasts on track including the nostalgia nitro funny cars, dragsters, funny cars, USA and Aussie muscle cars and hot rods, plus plenty of off-track action including a show n shine, traders and the ever-popular super swap meet, the event is going to be fantastic for all involved,” said Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes.

Late last year, Willowbank Raceway and the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals announced a new association which sees the Nostalgia events held at the venue run under the care of Willowbank Raceway track management.

The arrangement has seen a new race format introduced for 2012, and a third event and an exciting new class of racing – Nostalgia Super Stock - to be introduced in 2013.

Under the new format, a range of Elapsed Time (ET) cut-offs have been created, including 6.60s, 7.60s, 8.60s and 9.60s. Cars running 10.50s and slower will be grouped together based on qualifying times into smaller Dial Your Own (DYO) fields. No break outs will be allowed in any of the categories and they will all run on the Chicago Shootout format, guaranteeing plenty of runs for every competitor.
