MEDIA RELEASE - BEKTASH READY TO LEAD MOPAR ARMY TO WILLOWBANK RACEWAY

24 July 2012

Pro Stock star Lee Bektash will lead an expected 350 plus mopar machines to Willowbank Raceway this weekend for the 10th annual Mopar Sunday drag racing event at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility.

The Sunday 29 July event will allow enthusiasts to not only watch and participate in the on-track action but also enjoy a range of off-track events including a dyno shootout, a large show and shine and a swap meet during the 75th year of Mopar.

Bektash will take to the track in a newly designed car complete with a brand new 398 Rick Waters billet head Hemi direct from the United States.

At last year’s Mopar Sunday Bektash wowed the crowd with a 7.07 second pass at 194 miles per hour, with the leading Pro Stock competitor set to throw everything at breaking into the sought-after ‘six second’ bracket.

“Mopar Sunday is always a special event for me and Team Mopar, and with 2012 not only the 10th anniversary of Mopar Sunday but the 75th anniversary of Mopar, we are really excited to get to it this Sunday,” said Bektash.

“Last year we set out a 7.07 second pass, and we will be doing everything we can to better that result with a ‘six second’ pass in front of all the Mopar fans!”

Mopar Sunday organizer Sam Tatton said plans for the 10th annual Mopar Sunday were heating up with the official website – www.moparsunday.com – the place to go for all the updates.

“Mopar Sunday is open to every and any Mopar – whether its brand new, restored, original, a showpiece, a dedicated drag car, modified street car, a stock ride or a pro stock racer, all are welcome in this fantastic celebration of all that is Mopar and Chrysler,” said Tatton.

“As well as the on-track racing, there will be a Surf City Show and Shine hosted by the Queensland Chrysler Association (QCA) with 22 trophy categories on offer including dedicated Jeep awards – those wanting to compete just need to follow the QCA show signs at the track to place their US, Aussie, classic or modern Mopar in the roped off area adjacent to the start line.

“A wide range of Mopars both old and new including dedicated drag cars, street machines and stock rides are already signed up for the event.

“With all day drag racing, a dyno shootout, a huge 'show n shine', a swap meet, merchandise stands and trade stalls on site Mopar Sunday gives attendees plenty of opportunity to check out all of the action, pick up some memorabilia, find that part you’ve been looking for or just catch up with fellow Mopar enthusiasts.”

Spectator tickets including access to the Show and Shine and swap meet are just $25 (children 13 and under gain free entry) and are now available online at www.moparsunday.com or for purchase at the gate. Racing entry is $65 for pre-entry or $85 at the gate, while Dyno Shootout entry is $25 (not including gate admission). Gates open at 7.00am for an 8.00am start with an estimated finish of 4.00pm. Entry forms and further information can be found at www.moparsunday.com
