Willowbank Raceway - General News: LOCAL HIGH OCTANE HEROES GET SET FOR WILLOWBANK SEASON OPENER

LOCAL HIGH OCTANE HEROES GET SET FOR WILLOWBANK SEASON OPENER

29 January 2014

Local racers and their quarter-mile machines will officially open the 2014 competitive season for Queensland’s premier drag racing facility - Willowbank Raceway – this Saturday (1 February 2014).

Kicking off the year’s festivities will be the opening round of the 2014 Street Series, which features three categories of ‘street vehicle’ based competition across the Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff (ladies only) brackets.

As the entry level competition for aspiring drag race champions, the Street Series provides an accessible and affordable competition for Sedan and Motorcycle racers who wish to prove their mettle on the race track while chasing a coveted Queensland Drag Racing Championship (QDRC) trophy.

Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson said the Street Series was a perfect opener to the 2014 season.

“Drag racing and indeed Willowbank Raceway is all about our community, and there is no greater sense of community at our race track than that found in the Street Series level where you find the true grassroots of this sport,” said Manson.

“The Street Series provides an affordable entry-level opportunity for local racers to take their street-based car or bike and compete in an organised, safe and highly competitive racing series created around what they love to do – showing what their street vehicle can do on the race track!

“It is because of this that I think it is the perfect event to open our 2014 season at Willowbank Raceway and I can’t wait to see what our local heroes have got in store for us this year.”

Saturday’s Street Series event will kick off with time trials from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, with racing from 7.00pm. Spectator entry is available at the gate for just $20.00 for adults and $18.00 for students with ID. Children aged 13 years and under gain free admission. For more information, visit

The action for February won’t stop with the Street Series, with Saturday 15 February to host the first of eight QDRC rounds for the year and Saturday 23 February seeing crowd-pleasing Nostalgia Drag Racing come to town.  As always, these events will be run alongside the track’s Wednesday evening and Saturday Test n Tune events where anyone is able to come along and try their luck against their friends at the Ipswich facility.
