When the JP Racing Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series comes to Willowbank Raceway on Saturday 25 April 2015, Bob Frawley from Deception Bay will be a competitor to watch.

At 69 years of age and with more than 40 years of racing under his belt, the Redcliffe racer is a true statesman of the sport and is not shy about taking on any competitor that might line up against him.

“I love going against the younger guys, because they love to beat me and I love to beat them,” laughed Frawley, who thanks Frawley Engine Reconditioners, Repco Redcliffe and Elf Fuel distributor Sandgate Delivery for their support.

“We all get on quite well, that is a great thing about the Eighth Mile Series – it is a real relaxed atmosphere and there is a good camaraderie there, it reminds me of the old days back in the seventies.”

Frawley currently leads the standings for the RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified bracket after a round one runner-up result to Darren Otto plus bonus points for travelling (competitors in the Series are awarded bonus points for travelling to events held at venues other than their nominated ‘home track’).

“I had a good chance of winning at round one at Warwick but I fell asleep on the start line and then I tried to hunt him down and broke out of my dial-in.

“The day was good though and I was happy with it. With Eighth Mile racing it is all over so quickly and you have to be really sharp all of the time – one failure and you are out of the running.

“I really like that about the eighth mile style of racing – it is quick, you have got to be on the ball. I will be doing what I can to be on the money at our home round at Willowbank Raceway, we will just have to see what happens when we hit the track and then take it from there.”

The JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series celebrates grassroots drag racing at some of South East Queensland’s great regional tracks. After kicking off at Warwick Dragway on 21 February, the series now heads to Willowbank Raceway on 25 April for round two. Ironbark Raceway will then host round three on 1 August before the final round gets going at Benaraby Raceway on 26 September 2014.
