Pro Stock Brackets Back New Drag Racing Series

16 July 2015

 ·         Pro Stock and leading Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors join Top Fuel and Top Fuel Motorcycle in supporting new direction for professional drag racing in Australia

Australia’s Pro Stock owners have confirmed their overwhelming support of the recently announced Australian Professional Drag Racing Series.

In addition to the drag racing’s factory hot rod class, the leading competitors in its two-wheeled equivalent, Pro Stock Motorcycle, have also thrown their weight behind the series.

Pro Stock’s support comes on the back of the Top Fuel and Top Fuel Motorcycle categories last week publicly declaring their interest in Australian drag racing’s new direction.

Pro Stock representative Kerry Tremayne said the group’s owners are excited by the plans put forward by Australia’s premier tracks.

“Pro Stock teams have voted in an overwhelming majority to support the new series – it’s the best thing that’s happened for the sport in years,” Tremayne said.

“A united approach by the tracks and Group 1 racers to marketing and promotion, and a Racing Commission with balance is what drag racing needs to return confidence to competitors and the sport to prominence.

“We look forward to working with the series organisers in the best interests of Australian drag racing.”

Reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle Champion Maurice Allen and two-time champion Luke Crowley have both signalled their support for the series.

“A more professional approach to marketing and promotion is exactly what Australian drag racing needs, and I’m confident the new direction will benefit competitors and fans alike,” Allen said.

“The new series has our complete support and we will be working with the Pro Stock Motorcycle Owners Association to ensure it is a great success.”

Group spokesperson and Willowbank Raceway President Tony Wedlock welcomed the excitement of the Pro Stock ranks.

“It’s great to have Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle champions such as Maurice and Luke on board with the new Professional Drag Racing series,” Wedlock said.

“We are working closely with all professional categories to ensure they understand the benefits the new series offers, and will continue to do so.”

The new series, which will run with ANDRA sanctioning, will be marketed and promoted by a new, not-for-profit organisation co-owned by Australia’s major drag racing venues and a Group 1 owners company.

A Racing Commission will oversee all aspects of the competition, including sporting and technical rules, prize money allocation and calendar structure, with teams having 50 per cent representation on the commission.

Further details about the new series will continue to be released over the coming weeks, including a fresh new series name and brand.
