AUSTRALIAN PROFESSIONAL DRAG RACING CALENDAR CONFIRMED

Australia’s Professional Drag Racing series has confirmed its 2015/16 season dates, announcing a 12-event calendar for the Group One ranks after ratification from the recently formed Racing Commission.
The new series will kick into full gear at the East Coast Nationals, held at Sydney Dragway 7-8 November, and reach its climax at the largest drag racing event outside of the United States each year, the 48th annual Fuchs Winternationals, at Willowbank Raceway from 9-12 June.
Top Fuel, Top Fuel Motorcycle and Pro Stock Motorcycle will feature at six events each, while Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol have bumper seasons of nine and eight events respectively (including the two completed Hidden Valley events), with Pro Stock featuring at four events.
Perth Motorplex will play host to four events, with two apiece at Sydney Dragway, Willowbank Raceway, Calder Park Raceway and Hidden Valley Drag Strip.
A full support card of Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series brackets will also be present at four events: the East Coast Nationals, Australian Nationals, Westernationals and Fuchs Winternationals.
Willowbank Raceway president and series spokesperson Tony Wedlock said it’s an extremely exciting season ahead for professional drag racing in Australia, and the confirmation of the calendar is a big major step towards the sports revitalisation.
"It’s an exhilarating time for Australia’s pro categories, and today’s confirmation of the 2015/16 calendar marks the beginning of what will be the biggest, and best season for the sport,” Wedlock said.
“We’re excited to see events at Australia’s three leading venues, Perth Motorplex, Sydney Dragway and Willowbank Raceway, as well as Hidden Valley Drag Strip and a return to Calder Park Raceway.”
A new series name, branding and an all-new broadcast package will be announced at the championship launch in Sydney in a few weeks time.
