Street Vehicle Drag Racing Regulations
ISSUED 1ST DECEMBER 2011 – Updated 16th January 2017
Printable version
The following Safety Regulations are for road going “Street” based vehicles that wish to race at minor Drag Racing events effective December 1st 2011.
The “Off Street” Drag Racing events are designed to be simple and easy for anyone that wishes to complete with their 'Road Going' street vehicles. A Road Going Street Vehicle is defined as a car or motorcycles that are street registered or capable of being street registered.
Modern Street Vehicles have better designs and safety features when compared with older vehicles so these regulations are designed to take into consideration the differences between late model and older vehicles. The definition of “Modern” Street Car is one that was delivered from the factory with a minimum of a driver’s air bag and 4 wheel disc brakes.
In modern vehicles it is easy to add bolt-on components and significantly improve performance. These vehicles often exceed the Elapsed Time and Speed limits that have been applied for decades on older vehicles.
In the case of 'Road Going' Street Cars, the Monocoque body must not be modified however engine, transmission, brakes and suspension springs may be modified provided they fit the 'Road Going' definition above. However this does not include major modifications such as “four link” or ladder bar suspension conversions.
All first time entrants are welcome.
Drivers must have held an Australian Provisional Drivers license (as a minimum) and if under 18 years of age the entry form must be signed by a parent or guardian.
All drivers must wear an approved helmet, full length clothing and closed shoes. All safety requirements must be adhered to and may be checked over by scrutineering officials.
